Wells: We needed more time to look at Wachovia

On a conference call to announce their surprising deal to purchase Wachovia Corp., Wells Fargo & Co. executives said they needed more time to get comfortable with the deal. They said they believed the purchase is “appropriate” and would supersede any previous Wachovia agreements with Citigroup Inc. (WFC) (WB) (C) (BAC) (original story)
